DAILY GREEN TIPS

Apart from planting trees, there are innumerable ways to conserve our environment. Simple doable things in our daily lives help to reduce CO2 emissions save energy save water and help us move towards a sustainable lifestyle which yields benefits to us and the environment.

  • Be energy efficient. If you replace your existing refrigerator with a high-efficiency model, energy star model you would reduce your CO2 emissions by 99 kgs in one year.
  • Unplug. Unplug your cell phone charger, TV and other electronics from the wall when you are not using them, because they use energy when plugged in and on standby.
  • Do not over speed. Driving over the speed limit and excessive acceleration waste gas reducing mileage by up to 33%, money, and result in an unnecessarily higher carbon footprint. Drive within the limit and get a fuel economy benefit from 5%–33%.
  • Go Green. Use a solar water heater instead of an electric geyser. A 100-litre solar water heater can save around 15 units of electricity every year.
  • As you need it. Pour water in a glass according to need. Want more? Refill.
  • Recycle: Use RO or AC waste water for mopping
  • Be Fuel efficient. Use pressure cooker to cook food at home
  • Economize. Designate one glass for your drinking water each day, or refill a water bottle. This will cut down on the number of glasses to wash.
  • Be water smart. Wash your fruits and vegetables in a pan of water instead of running water from the tap.
  • Teach, Teach and Teach. Teach your kids about turning off lights and the TV when they leave a room. The same goes for all the appliances in your house.
  • Compost. Create a homemade compost bin.
  • Comp off. Turn off your computer completely at night.
  • Reuse scrap paper. Print on two sides, or let your kids color on the back side of used paper.
  • Be rain wise. Collect rainwater, and use it to water your houseplants and garden.
  • Old is gold. Use cloth instead of paper to clean your kitchen. Make the rags out of old towels and t-shirts.
